About EPIC Paranormal
The Eastern Paranormal Investigation Center was officially formed in May of 2006. Tired of constantly coming across "ghost hunting" groups who thought that everything they found was a ghost, Arthur Matos had a vision: to form a paranormal team that did not look for ghosts, but rather for rational explanations. His belief was simple: if no rational explanation could be found, only then could one start considering the possibility of paranormal activity. In March of 2006, Arthur posted an ad on Craig's List, seeking new members to share his vision of a professional and scientific paranormal research team. Many people responded, and the first official meeting was held in early May of 2006. It was here that he first met Jason Stroming, and the two became fast friends. Arthur asked Jason to be his official co-founder and webmaster, and EPIC was born.
The first few months were rough, and there was a lot of turnover in membership, which eventually dwindled back down to just Arthur and Jason. A few residential investigations on Staten Island were conducted during that time, but EPIC needed to refocus. In August of 2006, Laura Pennace joined the group, and the team was ready to begin investigating again. In February of 2007, the team welcomed James Bricks into the group, and for the first time, EPIC felt complete. Even though Arthur and Jason were the original founders, Laura and James are considered equally as important to the EPIC Team, as there would be no EPIC today without them.
In the three years that EPIC has been in existence, they have made quite a mark on the field of paranormal investigations. They have been invited to investigate such haunted places such as Sam's Bar & Grill, The Bridge Café, The Garibaldi-Meucci Museum, St. Andrew's Church, Richmond County Engine Company No. 1, as well as numerous private residences, many of which have not been posted on the main site, as to respect the client's anonymity.
They have also made numerous media appearances. In 2009, EPIC was interviewed by The New York Times for an article on haunted houses in New York City. They were also featured on NBC News Channel 4, in a story about their follow-up investigation of The Bridge Café. They also appeared on WFMU 91.1 FM as well as WSIA 88.9 FM. In 2008, EPIC was featured on NBC News Channel 4 in New York City for their investigation of The Church of St. Andrew on Staten Island. This investigation was also covered by The New York Daily News, The Staten Island Advance, The Gothamist, USA Today, and other media outlets. They were also interviewed on WFMU 91.1FM. In 2007, cable news channel NY1 covered EPIC's investigation of The Garibaldi-Meucci Museum, which was also featured twice in the newspaper New York Metro. Arthur Matos and EPIC were also profiled in New York's The Village Voice newspaper for "Best Ghostbuster." EPIC's Jason Stroming was interviewed for an article in TAPS Paramagazine detailing the hauntings at The Conference House on Staten Island.
Over the past three years, EPIC has also amassed a large inventory of scientific equipment, ranging from video cameras, still photography cameras, digital and analog audio devices, computers and software, EMF and other environmental meters, and more.
EPIC is an elite paranormal research and investigative team, which has grown slowly in size but very quickly in popularity and respect in the New York tri-state area. EPIC looks forward to bringing new members on board and continuing their research into the paranormal.
