Investigation: Private Residence - Staten Island, NY
Date of Investigation: 4/12/08 and 6/6/08
Case File#: PRSI - 04122008/06062008
The Scene
On Saturday, April 12th, the EPIC team was called in to investigate a private home on Staten Island, NY. The residence is a 2-family home, but most of the activity has been reported to occur on the first floor, so that is where we focused our investigation.
The EPIC team set up its base of operations (or "safe room") in the kitchen of the first floor apartment. The first floor also contains a living room, master bedroom, bathroom, and a den.
The Investigations
For the first investigation, we conducted a normal setup, using the DVR, 3 infrared cameras, 2 Hi-8's, digital and wireless audio, digital and 35mm cameras, and the standard EMF detectors.
For our second investigation, we decided to take a more hands-on approach, using less of the IR cameras and more of the handheld equipment. the size of the location and the reported activity seemed to warrant this method the second time around.
Both investigations finished up at approximately 1:30am, at which point we began to break down the equipment and pack up.
The Findings
During the initial investigation, nothing of note was really captured. There were a few unusually high EMF spikes around the bathroom area, and upon further investigation, they were found to be coming from a disconnected ventilation fan in the bathroom.
As far as photographic and video evidence, nothing of note was captured. There were some dust orbs on the digital stills, but these were obviously nothing more than dust particles. There were a few other photographic anomalies that were obviously problems with the film, and nothing paranormal.
As far as the audio evidence is concerned, there were a few anomalies caught by the team. Unfortunately, none of them were of high enough quality to really be considered. the poor quality and low volume meant that they could really be anything. So we will not provide them here as evidence.
Conclusions
The EPIC team investigated this location twice, and really did not come up with any usable evidence. There were no real personal experiences to speak of, and any anomalies that were caught could be easily explained as defective film, dust orbs, or simply background noise. We have explained the theories of Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity to the clients, and recommended that the homeowners bring in an electrician to properly shield the inactive ventilation fan in the bathroom, and see if that reduces any paranormal experiences.
