The EPIC Mission Statement

The Eastern Paranormal Investigation Center is a scientifically-based paranormal research group. Our mission is to explore reports of the paranormal to further our understanding of such phenomena, as well as educate people regarding the paranormal, supernatural or unexplained. EPIC's primary goal is to specifically help individuals and families who believe they are experiencing paranormal phenomena in their lives and who have no one to turn to.

EPIC approaches every case from a skeptical point of view. This is perhaps the most important principle any paranormal investigator should have. EPIC will always search for the most rational explanation first. Many groups will immediately view any anomaly, dust on a picture, or reflection in a window as a "ghost." We never claim to have found evidence of a ghost. We simply state that we found something that we could not explain through rational explanations.

EPIC investigators are not "experts." There is no such thing as an "expert" in the field of paranormal research. As of yet, there is still no way to conclusively verify any claim of the paranormal. This is why we investigate the paranormal, to look for answers in the hopes that someday, we will have the answers. Yes, we have many years of experience, but we do not consider ourselves experts. For now, anyone claiming to be an "expert" in this field is nothing more than a con artist.

EPIC uses the scientific method. We always try to replicate results. We always try to test our theories, and never come to a conclusion about those theories until they are thoroughly tested. We never claim any "cause and effect" relationships. We only note correlations.

EPIC investigators are not ghost busters. We cannot rid a location of "ghosts" or "spirits," we will however advise you on your options. We also don't do exorcisms, séances, cleansings or anything in that realm of metaphysics and "new age." Again, this field is rife with theories, but no conclusive proof as of yet. We would never claim to be able to rid a house of a phenomenon that nobody on this earth yet understands.

EPIC does not work with psychics. While we have nothing against psychics, there is simply no quantifiable way of measuring their facts or "feelings." Since EPIC works in the realm of scientific proof, we strictly stick to using our equipment to record data to put together scientific supportive evidence.

EPIC does not investigate outdoors. There is a very simple reason for this: if you are outside, you are not in a controlled environment. Water vapor, bugs, dust, etc. can all show up on film and look like "orbs" or other purported paranormal phenomena. Sounds can carry very far and be very distorted outside. Lights from cars or planes can look weird on film at night. There is just too much of a chance for evidence contamination. This is why you will never see EPIC investigating cemeteries, parks, or the like.

EPIC does not trespass. This is a matter of respect for our clients, as well as ourselves. We do not investigate any location without full permission by the owners. For one, it can be very dangerous to investigate abandoned locations, and there have been too many stories in the news lately about suspected "ghost hunters" being arrested, injured, or even killed while trespassing in dangerous buildings. Secondly, it is disrespectful and in most cases, illegal.

EPIC does not charge for its services. There are many groups who charge clients for their services or evidence disks, or for training courses to become a "certified" paranormal investigator. Or there are so-called psychics and mediums who charge people money to "cleanse" their home. Because there are no experts in this field, and because not much is known about paranormal phenomena, EPIC does not charge for any of its services. Any group, expert, training course, psychic, or medium who charges money should be avoided at all costs. The only thing you will gain from paying for their services is a smaller bank account.
