White Noise Generators

Do they help? Or Hinder?
In order for paranormal investigators to use a white noise device in the field, he or she must know what white noise is. Some Investigators frown upon using white noise generators during EVP sessions due to the issue of concealing any audible paranormal phenomena through static.
White noise is a type of audible signal that is produced from a combination of sounds of different frequency levels. If you listen to all the different audible sounds that the human ear can hear, that would be a culmination of white noise. White noise is made up of many different frequencies and they spread out in a broad
spectrum of sounds, from the ultra high frequency to the ultra low frequency. In comparison, compare white noise to white light, it's the same principle, it uses a wide spectrum of light otherwise compared to frequencies. Picture an orchestra playing a different note and everyone has the same instrument, hence white noise.
White noise contains many different frequencies. It is sometimes used to overpower other sounds. This is why some paranormal investigators don't like to use it as a tool in helping to capture EVPs, because it may mask true EVP sounds. However, White Noise may be a very helpful tool in gathering EVPs, due to the fact that it is composed of a wide range of frequencies and, theoretically speaking, ghosts tend to travel, manifest, and communicate on different frequencies (my theory) than living people. By utilizing white noise, paranormal investigators may be helping the entities lock on to a frequency.
We as paranormal researchers are using white noise generators to close the gap between having the entity lock on to a frequency and transmit their signal in audible sounds so that we can hear and hopefully intemperate upon the review of the recording (EVP).
There are many pros and cons about the use of white noise generators. They can easily be acquired and they can run a good amount of money. They start off about the size of a cigarette pack and can range from $199 to $1000 in price. White noise generators are much more effective than a radio set to static because you don't have to worry about channel bleeds, (hearing voices from a radio channel).
Theoretically, white noise generators are used by some paranormal Investigators to give the entity a background field signal where they can latch onto and send their signal by making an impression on a recorder. They tend to lock onto a specific frequency and transmit. Whether we will one day find out this enigmatic frequency is another story. That's what science is all about, trial and error.
As to the question of if generators help of hinder the EVPs, well that's all up to the methodology of the Investigator. If you plan to set the device on full blast then all you will end up with is a recorder full of wonderful static. Think wisely and let your experiments show what's the best method for you.
Happy Hunting.
